In a male infertility case, genotype identified by GeneAndroTM analysis resulted in a specific drug treatment recommendation which helped the couple conceive within a couple of months by improving sperm number and quality.

Rohan and Kamala, married for 9 years, approached for medical help when they were unable to conceive naturally. Kamala’s medical evaluations were normal but Rohan was diagnosed with severe OATS (Oligo Astheno Teratozoo Spermia) with poor sperm count, motility and morphology. The couple was referred to an Andrologist in New Delhi who recommended GeneAndroTM test for Rohan before initiating any medical management. Genomic Fertility Analysis by GeneAdroTM of Rohan showed that that he carried a gene variant of FSHR gene. This gene plays an important role in male testicular function and presence of this variation causes male infertility with Azoospermia / Oligospermia / Asthenospermia and Tearatozoospermia. The variation also results in high DNA fragmentation which could cause low fertilization rates and IVF failures. However, research shows that the males with this genotype respond well to FSH drug treatment with significantly high improvement of sperm parameters and reduction of DNA fragmentation. The andrologist noted the same and treated Rohan for 3 months with weekly injection of rFSH. Rohan’s semen analysis showed drastic improvement in sperm count and quality and Kamala conceived in the first round of ICSI. Rohan’s brother who also had similar problem got GeneAndroTM analysis done and found out that he too is a carrier of this variant. He took the same treatment under the andrologist and his wife conceived naturally after 3 months without any ART.
